This is a very special purchase opportunity on a beautiful Martin D-18 "Golden Era" 1934 in extremely near mint condition, and with eight years of seasoning already into the wood, resulting in the sort of deep rich tone that is the unique hallmark of the legendary Martin dreadnought line.
The tonal quality of a Martin dreadnought with mahogany back and sides is very, very special. The mahogany brings a unique warmth, which when combined with the Martin depth, volume, and detail creates a stunning sound. D-18's built in the modern method can sound rather tight, but a D-18 built with the old school methods employed on this high end "Golden Era" replication of a 1934 D-18, the result is quite simply superb. Martin spares no expense on the Golden Era, using Adirondack Spruce for the top, scalloped forward-shifted bracing for maximum vibration, fossilized ivory for the long saddle and nut, Waverly tuners, and a headstock overlay of rare Brazilian Rosewood.
This D-18 GE was built in 2003 and so the woods have enjoyed 8 years of seasoning. It sounds fantastic and the tone will continue to improve with each passing year. The guitar is in very near mint condition, the one notable flaw being a couple of tiny nicks at the edge of the peg head below the low E string tuning machine. The original top-of-the-line Martin "Geib" style hardshell case is in included and is in perfect condition, with the original key. A new one will cost you about $3,300 and the GE is great value at that price, but I am offering this well-seasoned and near perfect example for just $2,599, and my low price includes insured shipping included to any address in the 48 continental United States (and I will allow a comparable discount for shipping to destinations in Hawaii, Alaska, APO address, and other nations).
